Ichiyo School, the Ikebana school Libby belongs to, has retreats in different places around the world. That is where she got the inspiration to submit some of her floral designs for a book, so she set her sights on that.

Carole Currie on the art and beauty of Ikebana
When Elizabeth (Libby) Campbell, of Asheville, is out with her dog walking group in the mornings, she is always on the lookout for found objects such as lichens (a treasure), interesting gnarled branches or even a wasps' nest. She calls it "roadside ia."
But the considerations in putting together an arrangement are many: balance, texture, line, color, contrast and movement. It is not just a single flower in a small container.
In fact, learning the art of Ikebana can be intimidating because of the rules beginners must learn.

The Ichiyo Art Center opened when she lived in Atlanta, and when her son went to nursery school and she had some time on her hands, she started studying the art of Ikebana. Containers can be anything. She likes to use containers with rough exteriors with texture as the main element, tending toward neutral colors to show up the line and color of the plant material.
She was so inspired by the ceramic art she discovered when she moved to Asheville that she took classes at Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts and started making many of her own containers. She is also partial to containers made by ceramic artist Tacy Apostolik.
